Sorry, I thought I edited the previous message, but they must not have saved. It is not the liver that is affected, it is a persons kidneys. Sorry for the confusion! Mr. Hawkins

Good Afternoon! I was contacted by a Mitchell Doctor this afternoon. They wanted to let me know that there is a confirmed strain of strep in Davison County that is affecting a person's kidneys. Most doctors use antibiotics to treat strep throat. Those antibiotics protect a person's heart, but do not protect the patient's kidneys.
If you or your child begin having symptoms of a sore throat, please make sure to see your doctor! Although there are other strains of strep throat in the area, doctors will want to make sure a person does not have the strain recently mentioned.
If anyone in your family in the recent past had strep, there are some things suggested that you should do. Be sure to keep an eye on the person's urine. If it begins to be cloudy, or even change to a darker color, set up a visit with your doctor right away. This could be a sign that your kidneys have been infected by the new strain mentioned. The doctor also informed me that some people can naturally fight off strep throat. If any member of your family recently fought off any symptoms that may have been related to strep throat, they should also keep an eye on their urine for any changes that may occur.
Finally, the doctor did say that this is not an emergency situation or a reason for panic, just to simply be aware of the strain of strep that is now present in our area. This strain is treatable, just with a different type of medication. It is also likely that if someone in your family did catch this strain of strep, doctors would likely treat all household members, to be safe and make sure others do not contract it.
Mr. Hawkins

This weeks Farmlife Creamery Athlete of the Week is sophomore, running back and linebacker, Wyatt Anderson. In the Seahawks dominant 50-6 homecoming win over the McCook Central Cougars, Wyatt Anderson racked up a team-High 8 tackles, tackle for loss, fumble recovery, forced fumble and the safety that got the Seahawks on the board. As the Seahawks look at the future of their season, Anderson says, “I am most excited for the playoffs this year.” As are we the fans! Currently the Seahawks sit at 8th in power point standings. Anderson says, “What keeps me motivated is that I know I only have so much time playing football so why not make the most of it.” As a sophomore, Anderson has been playing some very important minutes for the Seahawks, we look forward to watching his career unfold. When asked what it means to be a Seahawk, he says, “It has shown me how to be respectful and to work hard.” We look forward to watching Anderson and the Seahawks work hard as they Elk Point- Jefferson on Friday night! Good luck Seahawks!

We will be sending off the Cross Country team soon to Regions today!! We all wish you the very best today!! Good Luck!!

Last week was an exciting week for the Rustlers! Due to all the awesome homecoming festivities, we are just getting around to last week’s Farmlife Creamery Athlete of the Week! Senior, tight end, Taite Klumb. Taite recorded 44 yards on 2 receptions for a hard-fought battle against the Winner Warriors. In the loss, Klumb also recorded 9 tackles and a pass breakup. When asked about what keeps him going during games like Winner where its physically and mentally challenging, he said, “All the kids in the stands that want to be out on the field or all the alumni who have played.” This year has been a tough one for the Seahawks as they’ve had to battle some very tough teams. However, last week’s big homecoming victory put Coach Van Luer at his 300th win, something only 1 other coach in the state has done. Taite remarked on that saying, “I was most excited to get Coach Vanleur's 300 win, but now I am excited to see how far we can go in playoffs!” The Seahawks have one regular season game left until they start playoffs. Taite recalls his time as a Seahawk by saying, “My time as a Seahawk has impacted me in a very positive way from learning you may not get the position you always wanted, to just life lessons like telling your mom you love them.” The Seahawks would love to see you in Elk Point on Friday, but if you’re unable to make it go to BEESeahawks.com to find the link to the game.
