This week- November 14-18, 2022- has been designated as American Education Week. At Ethan, we want to celebrate along with all of America the special public school community that exists here. American Education Week was first celebrated in 1921. This came two years after Americans were distressed that 25% of WW I draftees were unable to read. Because of this, illiteracy sponsors of American Education Week wanted to raise public support for education. Therefore, it is a week to inform the public of the school’s accomplishments and needs as well as creating cooperation and support of the public in meeting those needs. This week we will be honoring the whole team of people who work in our school to help create a special school community.

Happy Veterans Day !! Thank you to all Veterans for your service! Here is a few pictures from our special program yesterday!!

Reminder: The 5th and 6th grade basketball tourneys on Saturday are @Forestburg with the girls starting in the AM and the Boys starting around noon.

As some of you may know the school will be having a Blue Ribbon Celebration for the students this Thursday afternoon! With all the donations we received, the Thanksgiving Meal for Lunch will be FREE to all students! Each student will go through the line and put their Lunch ID as normal. Families will see a charge and then a credit on the account for the day. Thank you again to all the generous donations!

Parents: On November 15, Family Day for American Education Week, we are looking for parents to come in to talk about how education played a role in their career. If you are interested in talking to a class, please contact Mrs. Henrickson at carrie.henrickson@k12.sd.us or call the school at (605) 227-4211.

There will be a MANDATORY meeting for any girl grades 7-12 interested in JV or Varsity Girls Basketball on Monday, November 7th at 6:00 PM in the new gym. There will also be a MANDATORY parents meeting at 6:30 in the lunchroom right after the players meeting for the parents of any girl grades 7-12 who wants to play JV or Varsity or just practice with the JV and Varsity teams. If your daughter only wants to play 7th and 8th grade basketball, you do NOT need to attend. It would be great if both parents (of those who plan to play or practice with the JV or Varsity) would attend if possible. Coach Young.

Good morning!
"Armour has decided to host the 18th annual Prairie Readers competition again this year. Prairie Readers is a reading competition for 2nd - 12th grade students. Students read chapter books at or above their grade level. On March 29th, students and coaches will head to Armour where they will compete against students from surrounding schools (2nd grade vs. 2nd grade, 3rd vs. 3rd, ect.). Assigned books are provided, but you are welcome to purchase them if you wish. A book list will be sent home with students as soon as they sign up.
If you are interested in signing your child(ren) up for Prairie Readers this year, please follow the link below and fill out the Google form no later than November 1st. We are starting a little later than usual, so I would like to get numbers and books organized as soon as possible. Book lists, practice times, and other information will be sent home as needed.
If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Miss Timm at lexy.timm@k12.sd.us. Volunteers may be asked to read books, write questions about the book, and help at practices. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you! 🙂"

THANK YOU!

Porter the Hoarder was Live Yesterday! First graders all over the state received a free copy of the book Porter the Hoarder and the Ransacked Room. 150 schools other schools and the author of the book read the story to the kids and the illustrator did a directed drawing with them!! It was so much fun! Now they get to take their book home and the homework is for the parents to sit down and read with their kids! It was a fun program funded the SD Statewide Family Engagement Center.
