I wanted to share some meaningful news with our school community. Last Friday I received a phone call from Better South Dakota founder, Tristan Teichmeier, letting us know that our school has been selected as a 2026 grant recipient. We had been awarded a grant in Reed’s honor.
We are incredibly grateful to Mason Decker (pictured middle) from Better South Dakota for coming to our school and presenting this grant to us. A heartfelt thank you as well to Mikayla and Sally Harter (pictured middle) for joining us in accepting this gift. Their presence meant more than words can express.
This recognition is a powerful reminder that Reed’s impact continues to live on through the people he touched and the community that surrounds our school. We are thankful for the support, the generosity, and the continued honoring of a man who meant so much to so many.

Congratulations to Aiyana Lewis, Rachel Linn, Drew Mellegaard, Faye Weber, Hazel Weber, and Madelyn Orban! These young musicians were selected (out of almost 300 students!) to participate in the 2nd Annual DWU Middle School Honor Band last Wednesday! They did an outstanding job representing the Ethan School District!!! Mr. Hawkins

Students, staff, parents and community members; because of the weather forecast conditions, Mr. Harter's funeral will be live streamed through Colome Cowboys Live which is the Colome High School's Live Ticket channel. The link will be placed on Mr. Harter's page on the Mason Funeral Home website. We will be opening the school and live streaming Mr. Harter's funeral in the gym for anyone who wishes to join. Doors will open at 10:00 AM. If you are unable to come to the school but would like to watch from home, you can also search for Colome's Live Ticket channel, and the link should be on there as well. On Thursday night, January 22, our boys basketball team will travel to Corsica to take on Corsica/Stickney. I had to make a slight update on the times for the basketball games on Thursday, due to officials traveling a long distance, please see the updated post on the livefeed as well as on the Athletics Calendar.
Update on the planned Basketball games in Corsica on Thursday. We will not be playing JV or V Girls that evening. We will be playing games as follows. JH Girls-5:15pm, JH Boys- 5:15pm, JV Boys-6:15, V Boys- 7:30pm. We are working to reschedule the Girls V/JV for a different date. Please make sure ,if you are able, to come support our players that afternoon and evening. #LiveLikeHarter
Parents, Staff Members, and Students; we will be releasing school at 1:00 this Friday to give everyone the opportunity to travel to Colome for Mr. Harter's visitation and Prayer Service if they are choosing to do so. Mr. Hawkins
There will be no 3-6 pep squad practice today (1/20). At this time, a make-up is yet to be determined.
Visitation for Mr. Harter will be this Friday from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM with the prayer service to follow at 6:30 PM in the Colome School Gymnasium. His funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30, also in the school gymnasium. If you would like to send flowers or a memorial, you can send those to the Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Our 7-12 students are requesting that all staff and students wear blue tomorrow in honor and remembrance of Mr. Harter. Mr. Hawkins
